Something else you should think about
is interacting with others and showing them drawings and getting
feedback.
It's difficult getting feedback from
people on your drawings but this is something that is bound to happen
as you show your drawings to others.
So how should you take critique?
There are two points to this, the
first is that you can draw whatever you like and as long as you
are happy with it then you can forget everybody else.
It's your art and unless you are drawing
it for somebody else, his or her opinion shouldn't really concern
you.
However with that said there are some
very fundamental skills in art that you must learn to really be
a good artist. Once you've mastered these skills you can then move
into creating your own unique style, whatever it may be.
I've seen superb artists draw characters
in a style that looked so simple it could have been done by a complete
beginner.
However when others try and copy the
style it looks wrong and you can see a huge difference in the quality
even on simple drawings.
That's because these skilled artists
have mastered the fundamentals and then chosen to simplify their
drawings and create a unique look.
They've created an individual style
over the years and you should aim to do the same.
Art is very subjective and not everybody
will enjoy what you've created so always make sure you understand
if they are coming from a subjective, it's not my taste, position
or if they have some genuine feedback that you can take onboard
to make your drawing look better.
So in short don't listen to subjective
views but do learn from comments on fundamentals by others that
are better than you as you develop your own style.
